About Katie

I have been playing the flute since I signed up for 5th grade beginning band, though the first couple years of playing were a terrible struggle for me. When I entered 7th grade band I didn't even know how to tongue! It was at this point that I started taking private lessons and began to thrive at my flute studies. The flute has been a huge part of my life ever since.

In addition to my Silver Song Studio students, I am also the applied flute teacher at Linden Hall School for Girls in Lititz and the Lancaster Country Day School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

I have performed the traditional C flute, as well the piccolo and alto flute (pictured) with a variety of Central Pennsylvania ensembles including: the New Holland Band, the Lancaster County Flute Ensemble, the Pennsylvania Flute Choir (Glenmoore), as part of an expanded version of Centre Park Flutes (Reading) and as a community member of the Franklin & Marshall College Flute Studio Ensemble. I also have served as the assistant director of the Lancaster County Flute Ensemble.

Before moving to Lancaster, I was the principal flute in the Lee's Summit Symphony Orchestra and a member of various other Kansas City, Missouri area chamber ensembles.

I earned my Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and my Bachelor of Music from Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, Washington). My primary flute teachers are Dr. John Bailey, Rae Terpenning, and Laura Werner. For more detailed information about my education history, teaching, and performance activities please see my resume.

I love living in downtown Lancaster city with my son George and our two kitties, Kürbis and Luna. In addition to music I also enjoy watching baseball, reading (historical ficition and mysteries), gardening, and traveling.
